MOGADORE FIRE DEPARTMENT – received funding to revonate their fire station to install a sprinkler system through out their structure. Total amount awarded for this project came to $54,560.00. Congratualtions on your award!

SOUTH AMHERST VILLAGE FIRE DEPARTMENT – A 2nd grant in two years is what South Amhers Fire Department is dealing with. This grant will help the department to purchase much need equipment to replace old equipment on the department. The total cost for this project came to $30,200.00. Congratulations again on this grant award.

SUGARCREEK FIRE DEPARTMENT – Another department that has received two grants in two years. The total cost for the grant application this year came to $90,563.00. This grant will replace our old communications equipment with new communications equipment that meets the new P25 Compatability requirements. Congratulations again.

CULLODEN VULONTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, INC. (WEST VIRGINIA) – First time applicants received funding to purchase a RIT PACK (Rapid Intervention Team Pack) as well as a TIC (Thermal Imaging Camera) for the department. The total cost for this grant came to $8,900.00. Congratulations to the members and the department.

CITY OF MEDINA FIRE DEPARTMENT – received funding from the AFG FEMA Grant in the amount of $33,500 to help purchase new Extrication Equipment that replaced equipment that was in excess of 20 years of age. This is the first AFG Grant that Medina has ever received. Congratulations to them and their members.

STONE CREEK VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT – After numerous attempts, Stone Creek VFD received funding to purchase PPE for their members to replace their old gear. The total cost of this grant came to $86,085.00. Congratulations to the fire department and the members and stay safe!

FLORENCE TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT – Florence Township received their 2nd grant in three (3) years to help update their PPE and Equipment. This grant brought the department into compliance with NFPA standards with regard to PPE. The total cost for this project came to $43,557.00. Congratulations and good luck!

PLEASANT TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT – After the second attempt at trying to recieve funding to replce their old dilapitated vehicle, Pleasant Township Fire Department finally succeeded in securing funding through the AFG Program to be albe to purchase a new safe and roadworthy vehicle for the department. The total cost for this vehicle was $280,000.00. Congratulations on the award and appreciatation for your consistence and trust in us.

Brunswick Volunteer Fire Company, Brunswick, Maryland

Brunswick Volunteer Fire Company received $2,434,161.00 in ARRA Stimulus Funding through the AFG FEMA Station Construction Grant to be able to build a new much needed Fire Station which would replace an unsafe and uninhabitable building that they are currently utilizing.

This award would be one of only two grants that have been awarded to Fire Departments in this category for the State of Maryland.

This type of opportunity comes only once in a life time and Brunswick Volunteer Fire Company is one of the lucky few recipients that have been awarded this opportunity so far.

Canton Township Fire Department

A Mobile Training Tower is what Canton Township will be purchasing with the funds that they were awarded on April 9, 2010, in Round 10 of the 2009 AFG Grant process. The total cost of this tower is approximately $222,250.00. The acquisition of this training tower will mean that Canton Township will have the first of its kind in Stark County.

Obtaining this training tower will enable the fire department to train its members in all types of responses. This equipment will also enable them to train with all the fire departments that they provide and receive mutual aid/automatic aid with to strengthen the interoperability between the departments.

Being able to train in simulated real life situations will help to better prepare our firefighters for real life situations. Having to means and ability to train with this type of equipment is priceless when it comes to training our firefighters properly.

Lexington Township Volunteer Fire Department

After 4 previous attempts in the last 4 years and not being successful in receiving an AFG Grant, Lexington Township Fire Department finally received their first AFG FEMA Grant for Operations and Safety to replace much needed SCBA Airpacks and Individual Face Pieces in Round 10 which was released on April 9, 2010.

Lexington Township is located in Alliance, Ohio in Stark County. Funding for an Accountability System to be utilized with the new SCBA Air packs was also included in this grant.  The total funding for this grant came to $58,500 to make these purchases.

Congratulations on your determination and persistance, it paid finally paid off!!

Sugarcreek Fire Department

Located in the heart of Amish Country, Sugarcreek Fire Department which is situated in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, received funding from the AFG in the amount of $81,240.00 in Round 10 on April 9, 2010 to purchase turnout gear which would be replacing gear which is in excess of 10 years of age.

Also funded through this grant was the purchase of SCBA Airpacks which would be replacing old airpacks which are in excess of 12 years of age.

This too would be Sugarcreek’s very first AFG awarded after 3 attempts to replace their equipment.

Leesville Volunteer Fire Department

“Fourth Grant in three years!” – Leesville has secured their fourth grant in three years through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant for much needed equipment. Leesville Volunteer Fire Department is located in Carroll County, Ohio in the township of Leesville.

Funding with this grant will help to purchase much needed Hose in varying sizes, various adaptors,wyes and siamese attachments for hose, a Thermal Imaging Camera, Portable Pump and a Mobile Generator.

This grant award totaled $30,235.00 which was awarded on Friday, April 9, 2010 in Round 10 of the 2009 AFG Grant process

Congratulations Leesville Volunteer Fire Department!!

Located in the heart of Amish Country, Paint Township Volunteer Fire Department of Winesburg Ohio in Holmes County, was awarded a much needed Fire Prevention and Safety Grant in the amount of $54, 210 on April 2, 2010. It took 4 years and 4 applications later to get this grant awarded but on April 2, 2010, it all paid off. Paint Township Volunteer Fire Department will be able to distribute CO detectors and Smoke Detectors to homes in their community which are known for utilizing alternative heat sources. This grant will also include funding to purchase educational videos, puppets, handouts and supplies to distribute to the community and help to educate the community on a continuous basis. This grant was awarded under the Fire Prevention and Safety – Public Awareness category of the Grant.

Congratulations and we applaude you in your attempt to make the community a safer and more educated place to live.

On March 26, 2010, Freeport Community Volunteer Fire Department received funding in Round 8 from the 2009 AFG Grant Year to replace 22 year old turnout gear and also a Washer Extractor and Dryer to maintain the new turnout gear as well. The total grant funding came to $51,870.00.

Congratulations to Freeport and its dedicated members. The members will have piece of mind when responding to a call with gear that will better protect them.

Portage Fire District

Portage Fire District located in Ottawa County, Oak Harbor, Ohio received their first ever AFG Grant in the Operations and Safety category in the amount of $195,074.00 on March 19, 2010. Portage Fire District will be able to purchase a Washer Extractor and Dryer which they have never owned before to keep the new turnout gear clean, which they will be purchasing with this grant funding as well. 

Also awarded in this grant was funding to replace 20 year old SCBA Airpacks along with an Accountability Systems for keeping more efficient account of the firefighters on scene. To top off this grant application, Portage Fire District also received funding to equipt each firefighter with their own individual facepieces which they did not have before.

Scio Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.

After receiving their first grant in Round 4 on February 19, 2010 in the amount of $100,000 for SCBA and Individual Facepieces, Scio Volunteer Fire Department was awarded their second grant for $250,000 in Round 7 for the acquisition of a much needed Tanker which would be replacing a 1976 “homemade” tanker. After two attempts to receive funding for each of these grants which were denied in the FY 2008 AFG season, they were very fortunate to receive both grants in the 2009 FY AFG season.

There is finally movement in the Assistance to Firefighters Grant applications. Congratulations to all who were awarded.  Gatchell Grant Resources, LLC has been very fortunate to be able to assist numerous Fire Departments and EMS Departments with the grant application process and the successful awarding of these grants. This is a list of the fortunate departments that we were able to help:

In Round 4 on February 19, 2010 the following departments were awarded

• Canal Fulton FD (Stark County, Ohio) – In Operations and Safety Category received $43,844.00 for Training;
• East Sparta Vol. FD (Stark County, Ohio) – Received $16,100.00 for PPE Equipment in Operations and Safety;
• Jewett VFD, Inc. (Harrison County, Ohio) – Finally after a few unsuccessful attempts received $29,588.00 to replace PPE Equipment in Operations and Safety;
• Kidron VFD, Inc. (Wayne County, Ohio) – Received $200,000 for the purchase of a much needed vehicle;
• Logan County FD Station #200 – Was awarded $108,220.00 for the purchase of new PPE;
• Prairie Twp. VFD – After the second attempt, Prairie Twp. VFD was awarded $275,000.00 to be able to purchase a much needed vehicle;
• Scio, VFD, Inc. (Harrison County, Ohio) – $100,000.00 was awarded to Scio VFD, Inc. to purchase much needed PPE to help protect their members.

In Round 5 on March 5, 2010 the following Departments were awarded:

• Indian Joint Fire District (Logan County, Ohio) – received $55,000.00 to replace their old and obsolete PPE Equipment;
• Leesburg VFD – received $31,098 in the Operations and Safety category to purchase new PPE for its members;
• Moorefield Township VFD – applied for the first time in 2009 in the Operations and Safety category and was awarded swiftly in Round 5 in the amount of $24,842.00 for PPE;
• Valley City FD (Medina County, Ohio) – receives $48,100.00 for PPE in the Operations and Safety category for much needed equipment.

And most recently, in Round 6 on March 12, 2010, the following departments were awarded:

• Lakeview VFD receives $79,000.00 towards the purchase of PPE to help protect its members; and
• South Amherst FD through Operations and Safety receives a grant in the amount of $52,290.00 to help purchase PPE Equipment for the members of the fire department.

Again, congratulations to all of the fortunate departments who have been awarded to this point and good luck to all the rest who have applications still open for award.

Congratualtions go our fire departments in 3 States:

     Beaverdam-Richland FD in Beaverdam, Oh received grant funds in amount of $20,400 from AFG for a mobile/fixed generator in Round 3 of the AFG;

     Harrisvile VFD in Harrisville, OH received grant funding for PPE totaling $47,973 in Round 2 of the AFG;

     Gettysburg Rural FD in Gettysburg, OH is a double winner receiving funding for a grass truck in Round 1 of the AFG and then also being award $37,427 towards a generator in Round 3 of the AFG, Congratulations to them!

     Bancroft Volunteer FD in West Virginia will be receiving a new hose tester, hose, and nozzels due to the assistance of the AFG awarding them $28,672 in Round 2 of the AFG; and

     Lake Dalecarlia Volunteer Fire Department in Indiania is receiving grant funds totaling $124,214 in Operations and Safety for SCBAs, a face piece tester,  hand held tac-tracker (to be used in conjunction with SCBAs), and air fill system, and a mobile fill station with two storage cylinders in Round 3 of the AFG.

      To those who have received 1199’s and/or their 10Q’s, remember, patience is a virture; the AFG award process is finally moving!
