Canton Township Fire Department
A Mobile Training Tower is what Canton Township will be purchasing with the funds that they were awarded on April 9, 2010, in Round 10 of the 2009 AFG Grant process. The total cost of this tower is approximately $222,250.00. The acquisition of this training tower will mean that Canton Township will have the first of its kind in Stark County.
Obtaining this training tower will enable the fire department to train its members in all types of responses. This equipment will also enable them to train with all the fire departments that they provide and receive mutual aid/automatic aid with to strengthen the interoperability between the departments.
Being able to train in simulated real life situations will help to better prepare our firefighters for real life situations. Having to means and ability to train with this type of equipment is priceless when it comes to training our firefighters properly.

Lexington Township Volunteer Fire Department
After 4 previous attempts in the last 4 years and not being successful in receiving an AFG Grant, Lexington Township Fire Department finally received their first AFG FEMA Grant for Operations and Safety to replace much needed SCBA Airpacks and Individual Face Pieces in Round 10 which was released on April 9, 2010.
Lexington Township is located in Alliance, Ohio in Stark County. Funding for an Accountability System to be utilized with the new SCBA Air packs was also included in this grant. The total funding for this grant came to $58,500 to make these purchases.
Congratulations on your determination and persistance, it paid finally paid off!!
Sugarcreek Fire Department
Located in the heart of Amish Country, Sugarcreek Fire Department which is situated in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, received funding from the AFG in the amount of $81,240.00 in Round 10 on April 9, 2010 to purchase turnout gear which would be replacing gear which is in excess of 10 years of age.
Also funded through this grant was the purchase of SCBA Airpacks which would be replacing old airpacks which are in excess of 12 years of age.
This too would be Sugarcreek’s very first AFG awarded after 3 attempts to replace their equipment.

Leesville Volunteer Fire Department
“Fourth Grant in three years!” – Leesville has secured their fourth grant in three years through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant for much needed equipment. Leesville Volunteer Fire Department is located in Carroll County, Ohio in the township of Leesville.
Funding with this grant will help to purchase much needed Hose in varying sizes, various adaptors,wyes and siamese attachments for hose, a Thermal Imaging Camera, Portable Pump and a Mobile Generator.
This grant award totaled $30,235.00 which was awarded on Friday, April 9, 2010 in Round 10 of the 2009 AFG Grant process
