CITY OF MEDINA FIRE DEPARTMENT – received funding from the AFG FEMA Grant in the amount of $33,500 to help purchase new Extrication Equipment that replaced equipment that was in excess of 20 years of age. This is the first AFG Grant that Medina has ever received. Congratulations to them and their members.

STONE CREEK VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT – After numerous attempts, Stone Creek VFD received funding to purchase PPE for their members to replace their old gear. The total cost of this grant came to $86,085.00. Congratulations to the fire department and the members and stay safe!

FLORENCE TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT – Florence Township received their 2nd grant in three (3) years to help update their PPE and Equipment. This grant brought the department into compliance with NFPA standards with regard to PPE. The total cost for this project came to $43,557.00. Congratulations and good luck!

PLEASANT TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT – After the second attempt at trying to recieve funding to replce their old dilapitated vehicle, Pleasant Township Fire Department finally succeeded in securing funding through the AFG Program to be albe to purchase a new safe and roadworthy vehicle for the department. The total cost for this vehicle was $280,000.00. Congratulations on the award and appreciatation for your consistence and trust in us.

Congratulations to the following departments that received AFG Assistance to Firefighter Grants for the 2010 application year.

Round 1 (November 26, 2010) – Mineral City VFD of Mineral City, Ohio. Receivied their first ever AFG Grant, they were extactic to be able to purchase new SCBA cylinders to replace their aged ones as well as two (2) sets of Turnout gear to be able to equip two (2) new members of the department who did not have gear of their own. The total amount of the award under Operations and Safety was $16,096.00.

Round 5 (December 31, 2010) – Deersville Community VFD of Deersville, Ohio received their first ever AFG Grant by way of a Vehicle. This vehicle will allow Deersville Community VFD to replace their current homemade 1952 vehicle with a new NFPA compliant vehicle that will help to transport their firefighters in a safer manner. Deersville also requested and was aqpproved for additional funding to be able to train the entire department on Emergency Vehicle Operations. The total grant award for Vehicle Acquisition came to $224,640.00.

Erhart York Township FD of Medina, Ohio  was one of many departments that was also awarded in Round 5 of the AFG. Erhart York Township FD will be able to purchase (24) full sets of turnout gear to bring the department into 100% compliance with NFPA standards. To be able to properly maintain their gear, Erhart York Township FD was also awarded funds to purchase a washer extractor and dryer for the gear. The total of this grant came to $64,002.00

Lowell, Indiana, is were Lake Dalecarlia VFD is located. Because they were awarded funds in Round 5 on December 31, 2010, they will be able to purchase new hose, attack as well as LHD, to replace their dilapitated hose that they currently utilized. They were also awarded funds to purchase a Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC) and Gas Meter as well as a Washer Extractor to maintain their current gear. The total funding of this grant came to $41,410.00.

Round 6 (January 7, 2011) Canton Township FD of Canton, Ohio will be able to purchase and replace (5) of their old monophasic monitors with new biphasic monitors which meet the newest standards as well as provide the best possible care to their patients. The total cost of this project award came to $150,000.00.

Congratulations to Amsterdam VFD of Amsterdam, Ohio who received a grant from the AFG in Round 6 on January 7, 2011 for (16) portable radios to replace their old equipment, (20) sets of turnout gear and (15) helmets to bring the department into compliance with NFPA standards and a washer extractor to help extend the life of the gear as well as maintain their gear. The total cost of this grant came to $97,311.00.

Round 7 (January 14, 2011) – City of Bedford Division of Fire in Bedford, Ohio is extatic to find out that they will be able to utilize the same communication equipment as their neighboring departments that they provide automatic aid to by being able to utilize MDTs on their units. Also included in this grant is the hardware required to upgrade the vehicles as well as a Thermal Imaging Device (TIC) and a Chemical Detection Device. The total cost for this grant came to $83,779.00.

Sheffield Township of Lorain, Ohio receives AFG grant in Round 6 on January 14, 2010 as well for a Biphasic Monitor, (2) AEDs for their engines and (2) Suction Devices for their Ambulance units to replace their aged equipment that needed replacing. The total package came to $38,080.00.

Round 8 (January 21, 2011) – Pleasant Township FD receives their first ever grant and it came in the form of a vehicle acquisition. This new vehicle will replace a (22) year old converted vehicle that was to be put out of service when the new vehicle is purchased. The total cost for this purchase and award came to $280,000.00.

Florence Township FD of Birmingham Ohio, for the second time in three years received funding through the AFG to purchase a washer extractor and dryer to maintain the gear that they received through an AFG grant in 2008, Individual SCBA facepieces for the entire department as well as a face piece fit tester to properly fit and test the entire department. Lastly, funding was also approved to be able to fit the entire department with new hoods as well as gloves to bring the department into complete compliance. The total cost for this project came to $43,557.00.

Congratulations to our clients as well as all who have been awarded up to this point. As for the other applicants, it is still early, if you have not received a denial letter, you are half way there, just be patient.

Brunswick Volunteer Fire Department in Brunswick, Maryland was given the approval and go ahead to begin construction on the new fire station that they received funding for through the AFG Assistance to Firefighters Sation Construction Grant.

Construction is tentatively set to start in the next 30 days. The fire department and all of its members are excited and very thankful for once in a lifetime opportunity.

More difficult than the previous years, the 2010 SAFER grant has opened today. Anyone interested in applying for this grant must get their ducks in a row because there are alot of changes from previous FY applications.

Brunswick Volunteer Fire Company, Brunswick, Maryland

Brunswick Volunteer Fire Company received $2,434,161.00 in ARRA Stimulus Funding through the AFG FEMA Station Construction Grant to be able to build a new much needed Fire Station which would replace an unsafe and uninhabitable building that they are currently utilizing.

This award would be one of only two grants that have been awarded to Fire Departments in this category for the State of Maryland.

This type of opportunity comes only once in a life time and Brunswick Volunteer Fire Company is one of the lucky few recipients that have been awarded this opportunity so far.

Canton Township Fire Department

A Mobile Training Tower is what Canton Township will be purchasing with the funds that they were awarded on April 9, 2010, in Round 10 of the 2009 AFG Grant process. The total cost of this tower is approximately $222,250.00. The acquisition of this training tower will mean that Canton Township will have the first of its kind in Stark County.

Obtaining this training tower will enable the fire department to train its members in all types of responses. This equipment will also enable them to train with all the fire departments that they provide and receive mutual aid/automatic aid with to strengthen the interoperability between the departments.

Being able to train in simulated real life situations will help to better prepare our firefighters for real life situations. Having to means and ability to train with this type of equipment is priceless when it comes to training our firefighters properly.

CONGRATULATIONS TO CANTON TOWNSHIP!!

Lexington Township Volunteer Fire Department

After 4 previous attempts in the last 4 years and not being successful in receiving an AFG Grant, Lexington Township Fire Department finally received their first AFG FEMA Grant for Operations and Safety to replace much needed SCBA Airpacks and Individual Face Pieces in Round 10 which was released on April 9, 2010.

Lexington Township is located in Alliance, Ohio in Stark County. Funding for an Accountability System to be utilized with the new SCBA Air packs was also included in this grant.  The total funding for this grant came to $58,500 to make these purchases.

Congratulations on your determination and persistance, it paid finally paid off!!

Sugarcreek Fire Department

Located in the heart of Amish Country, Sugarcreek Fire Department which is situated in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, received funding from the AFG in the amount of $81,240.00 in Round 10 on April 9, 2010 to purchase turnout gear which would be replacing gear which is in excess of 10 years of age.

Also funded through this grant was the purchase of SCBA Airpacks which would be replacing old airpacks which are in excess of 12 years of age.

This too would be Sugarcreek’s very first AFG awarded after 3 attempts to replace their equipment.

Leesville Volunteer Fire Department

“Fourth Grant in three years!” – Leesville has secured their fourth grant in three years through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant for much needed equipment. Leesville Volunteer Fire Department is located in Carroll County, Ohio in the township of Leesville.

Funding with this grant will help to purchase much needed Hose in varying sizes, various adaptors,wyes and siamese attachments for hose, a Thermal Imaging Camera, Portable Pump and a Mobile Generator.

This grant award totaled $30,235.00 which was awarded on Friday, April 9, 2010 in Round 10 of the 2009 AFG Grant process

Bloom Township Volunteer Fire Department received $8,000.00 from the State Fire Marshal Equipment Grant in March 2010. This Grant will help to purchase much needed equipment for the fire department.

Located in the heart of Amish Country, Paint Township Volunteer Fire Department of Winesburg Ohio in Holmes County, was awarded a much needed Fire Prevention and Safety Grant in the amount of $54, 210 on April 2, 2010. It took 4 years and 4 applications later to get this grant awarded but on April 2, 2010, it all paid off. Paint Township Volunteer Fire Department will be able to distribute CO detectors and Smoke Detectors to homes in their community which are known for utilizing alternative heat sources. This grant will also include funding to purchase educational videos, puppets, handouts and supplies to distribute to the community and help to educate the community on a continuous basis. This grant was awarded under the Fire Prevention and Safety – Public Awareness category of the Grant.

On March 26, 2010, Freeport Community Volunteer Fire Department received funding in Round 8 from the 2009 AFG Grant Year to replace 22 year old turnout gear and also a Washer Extractor and Dryer to maintain the new turnout gear as well. The total grant funding came to $51,870.00.

Congratulations to Freeport and its dedicated members. The members will have piece of mind when responding to a call with gear that will better protect them.
