The Tappan Lake Volunteer Fire Department in Scio, Ohio has been awarded a $32,000.00 federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG).  This grant money from FEMA will be used for the purchase of PPE and for training.  The federal share of the grant is $30,970.00.  This grant was awarded for “operations and safety.”  The announcement came in round 23 of FEMA’s AFG awards.  We are proud that another client has received federal grant money from FEMA.

The Fox Township Volunteer Fire Department, Inc, Mechanicstown, Ohio, received a federal grant from FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.  This federal grant money will be used to purchase equipment for operations and safety.    The total award is $10,280.00 and a federal share of $9766.00.  The announcement came in round 23 of FEMA’s AFG grant announcements on February 6, 2009.  Fox Township Volunteer Fire Department is just one of the Gatchell Grant Resources clients who received federal grant money.  In the current economic climate, grant money is becoming more important as a funding source.  Contact Gatchell Grant Resources to assist your department in securing grant money.

The Ehart York Volunteer Fire Department, Medina, OH, has received federal grant money from FEMA.  The grant money is in the form of Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG).  The total award is $58,500 with federal share of $55,575.00.  This federal grant money from FEMA will be used for equipment for operations and safety.  The announcement came during FEMA AFG round 23 on February 6, 2009.  Gatchell Grant Resources is very pleased to help another fire department obtain their federal grant money from FEMA’s AFG program.

The Bakersville Volunteer Fire Department, Bakersville, OH,  has received grant money from FEMA for vehicle acquisition.  This federal grant money was awarded under FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG).  The total award is $80,000 with federal share of $76,760. The announcement came in FEMA’s AFG program round 23 on February 6, 2009  The Bakersville Volunteer Fire Department is another client of Gatchell Grant Resources who received a grant for a fire truck this year!  The staff of Gatchell Grant Resources is very glad to have been able to assist another department in securing federal grant money.

FEMA Fire Prevention and Safety Grant for 2008 finally opened for applications on February 2, 2009. The deadline date for application submission is March 6, 2009 at 5pm.  Please call our office for more information on applying for this federal grant money.

More on the FEMA Fire Prevention and Safety Grants:

The purpose of the Fire Prevention and Safety Grants is to fund fire prevention activities and to research and develop improvements to firefighter safety. Fire prevention grants are designed to reach high-risk target groups and mitigate incidences of deaths and injuries caused by fire and related hazards. Fire Prevention and Safety grants are separated into two “activities”. The projects that can be funded are listed below:(1) Fire Prevention and Safety: Applicants can apply for up to three projects. Public education campaigns, Smoke Alarms, Sprinkler Awareness, Code Enforcement/Awareness, Firefighter Safety, Training, Wildfire Prevention /Awareness, Arson Prevention/Awareness, Risk Assessment, General Prevention/Awareness. Applicants requesting Risk Assessments are precluded for applying for additional projects. (2) Firefighter Safety Research and Development: The purpose of this funding activity is to improve firefighter health and life safety through research and development projects. All projects must address injury outcomes or their surrogates such as firefighter fitness or health indicators.

Gatchell Grant Resources will be speaking at the Ohio Township Association Winter Conference on February 5, 2009.  We will have two sessions. One session will focus on Public Safety and the other will focus on Townships, Villages and Cities. 

We will be focusing a lot on the grants that will be becoming available in the very immediate future.  The types of grants we are referring to are FEMA-AFG Grant for 2009, 2009 CEDAP Grant, Nature Works Grant, various infrastructure grants, Clean Ohio Grants and numerous other state, foundation and corporate grants that are set to be available in this coming year.  Come learn about the programs to secure your grant money.
